Uses Of Phenol

As Disinfectan

Phenols are already very familiar in the life of an analyst, the other name is carbol / lisol. Phenols is an ingredient in the manufacture of disinfectant that used to kill microorganism

As Coloring Substances

Phenols are ingredients from indicator that usually use in the laboratory for the titration of acid base, for example is Phenolphthalein indicator.

As Plastic Manufacturing

By reacting the phenol with formaldehyde, there will be resin phenol (synthetic resin) whose form is hard, strong, durable and can be printed under various conditions and including polymer thermostat so it’s often used for making plastic glass laminating coating material and others.

As Adhesives and Preservatives

By condensing phenol and formaldehyde will be produced phenolic resin which has advantages in its dimensional balance and heat resistance, so it is used for brake linings, wood adhesives, metal adhesives and others. the price is also relatively cheap.

As Synthesis Material of Compounds in Coal

Coal combustion will produce pollutants that pollute the air, phenols play a role in the synthesis of aromatic compounds present in coal into hydrocarbon oils (fuel, diesel, kerosene, even derivatives of aldehydes and ketones).Coal is converted to CO and H2 (Syngas). Then Syn gas is converted to hydrocarbons by catalytic reaction.
